MY THOUGHTS ON MUA LUXE ‘ROCK CHICK’ GLITTER PALETTE

Hi guys!

So, a few weeks ago I got a big beauty haul in from Superdrug with my Christmas money.

I was browsing the MUA section and seen a few things that caught my eye. If you didn’t already know, I’m a big fan of the MUA brand, they are so budget friendly and the quality of most of their products is remarkable. I have a Ā£3.00 bronzer from them which is perfection and better than any other bronzer I have ever tried. Their lipsticks are incredible too for the low price.

I decided to pick up a palette from their new Luxe range. I have been wanting some glitter eyeshadow for a while now and for the great price of Ā£4.00 I didn’t even think twice about purchasing it.

The MUA Luxe glitter palette in Rock Chick stood out for me with its pretty blue and silver colours, but if you’re not a fan of the blue then they have a few other color choices too!

I was surprised to find when I opened up the palettes and swatched them that they had a gel consistency. I don’t know why but I expected them to be a powder. Either way, I was really excited about trying them out!

Hmm, where do I start. I really do not get along with these and I am really disappointed about it because I had very high hopes.. but the problem is, they just don’t look anything like they do in the palette when they are on my skin. As you can see in the picture, they do look very pigmented whilst in the palette but sadly, the glitter tends to be quite sheer and it proves pretty difficult to build up a decent opaque layer onto your lid. I have tried to use the glitter over a similar powder eyeshadow colour so my eye doesn’t look as sheer when the glitter is on but this is just a recipe for disaster. The gel removes all of the colour from your powder eyeshadow and you end up with a very blotchy eye.

I find that the texture of the glitter is really difficult to work with. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind gel shadows/liners etc but this one just seems kind of cheap and feels very sticky. If you want to blend this into your skin, it is very hard work. The glitter comes out so unevenly on my skin and tends to clump into one spot. I have tried to build up these shadows in lots of different ways, by applying them with brushes, patting them on with my fingers and using very thin layers to slowly build them up but I just can’t get a result I’m satisfied with.

The lasting power of the glitter shadows are just horrendous. Because they are so sticky, they just do not dry or set and the glitter attaches to anything that touches it. Your lashes, your glasses, you name it, this glitter will stick. You end up with a very messy, sticky and not so pretty eyeshadow look.

Overall, I wouldn’t recommend these to anybody. Yes, they are really pretty and I have been happy to try them out but I will not be repurchasing and I am still on the look out for a good glitter shadow! Any recommendations?

SWATCHES:

I’m very sorry about the poor lighting. The days are so dark during these last few months and I broke my daylight bulb.

Have you tried these? What do you think?

  1. Hi, too bad you were disappointed with this product. Am also a fan of MUA. I haven’t tried it though the glitter came out nice on your skin. Thinking it might not be bad for Carnival – like makeup. What do you think?

    1. Yeah the glitter looks nice on the photos and it swatched quite nicely, it went blotchy and clumped up a few minutes later though! You could always give this a try and see if it works for you šŸ™‚ I think it is a bit like marmite, I have read some great reviews about it and some bad reviews.
